[Beauty Review] Tsubaki Shining Hair Care Range

What is the first thing that you notice when you're meeting someone new? A survey was conducted by Zoosk.com and surprisingly, 89% of men actually said that good hair is the first thing they notice and hairstyles were the sexiest part of women. It's the same goes to women where we often see our hair as a reflection of our identity which explains why we're willing to fork out a large amount of money to go to hair salons for spa and treatment from time to time.

Today I'm going to review a premium hair care product that you guys should be very familiar with, Tsubaki Shining hair care range. Tsubaki was first launched in March 2006 in Japan, a brand which centers on making hair beautiful and shiny and focused on the idea of helping every woman unleash their hairs' potential to become beautiful.

Tsubaki actually takes after the name of Camellia flower representing moisture and shine which you can see it's all over the packaging of their products. It is the only brand that has Camellia Oil as its ingredients and there are only two countries that have this oil; China and Japan, where Japan has been providing the finest Camellia for 140 years. Japanese Camellia Oil has been responsible for the classic, legendary beauty of Japanese hair for centuries in Japan.

Shiseido was the first to discover the hair melanin is lost daily due to UV and many other factors. The loss of melanin created a hole which causes irregular reflection and loss of shine of hair. Hence, they have now introduced a melanin reparative ingredient - Arginine which repairs melanin hole to allow light to penetrate hair shaft and to be reflected evenly, resulting in a lustrous and glorious hair.

Tsubaki Shining Shampoo (550ml @ RM38.90)

Direction: Apply an appropriate amount of shampoo and massage into hair. Lather out and rinse off thoroughly with warm water.

The texture of the shampoo is quite runny in consistency with pearl white finish and it lathers up very well with a bit of mixing with water. While for the conditioner which is clearly thicker compared to the shampoo, yet it feels very smooth and lightweight.

Tsubaki Shining Conditioner (550ml @ RM38.90)

Direction: After shampooing, apply an appropriate amount of conditioner throughout hair. Rinse thoroughly with cold water.

Tsubaki Shining Hair Mask (180g @ RM44.90)

Direction: After shampooing, squeeze out the excess water before applying evenly onto hair. Massage gently and rinse off with cold water after approximately 5 minutes.

Tips: Rinse your hair with cold water helps to close the cuticle and seal in the moisture to each hair strand, leaves it shiny, frizz-free and even protects your hair colour. You may shampoo your hair with warm water but it's essential to finish it with a cold rinse.

As usual, the hair mask is very thick and rich in texture. It glides smoothly on my hair and I love how it makes my hair so soft and tangle-free each time after using it.

I'm so glad to say that my hair has gotten so much better after using Tsubaki Shining hair care range. I would first describe my hair condition which I have normal to oily scalp with dry, frizzy and a little split ends (that's terrible, I know). I can see slight improvement after using it that it does moisturize my hair and makes my hair shine, literally! I love the fact that it doesn't weigh my hair down and did a great job in cleansing my scalp thoroughly. Among these three, my favourite product would be Tsubaki Shining Hair Mask undoubtedly because it nourishes my hair and appears less frizzy and dry after a few usage.

Packaging wise, the newly launched Tsubaki Shining hair care range comes in bright red colour bottle with Camellia flower prints on it, which is very eye-catchy and attractive. The pump dispenser is very convenient and one pump (about a coin-sized quantity) is sufficient for my entire head. Fyi, it also comes in a travel-friendly sized of 220ml @ RM18.90. Besides, I love the fragrance of Tsubaki hair care products which smells like Camellia flower and surprisingly, it could last for about half day. Overall, it has done a great job on maintaining my hair condition and prevents further breakage.

For those who are looking for an alternative hair care brand, I would recommend you to go for Tsubaki Shining hair care range especially if you have long, black hair. Tsubaki Shining hair care range is suitable for normal to dull hair and is currently available at all Watson's, Guardian, Aeon Wellness, Aeon Big, Mercato, Cold Storage, Sasa and Tesco.

[Review + Tutorial] Philips Easy Natural Curler

Sis, can you please help me to curl my hair tomorrow? I have an important date at night.
Read
9:34 PM

Okay
9:38 PM

To be honest, I've never use hair curler on my own before and I always rely on my sister for hair styling until I was introduced to Philips Easy Natural Curler, my life saver! A good hairstyle is very important and we often see our hair as a reflection of our identity. Many women feel that a bad hair day equals a bad day; when a woman's hair is too fine, frizzy or dry, her self-esteem would be affected. My hair got really damaged since I started to dye hair, hence I always find ways to cover the frizziness like braids or curling my hair.

Today I will be reviewing Philips's latest innovation, the Easy Natural Curler with a quick tutorial.

"Philips Easy Natural Curler makes it easy to create beautiful curls even at the back of your head. Its unique Tulip shape and clever plates hold the hair strand while styling, enabling you to create curls in one simple movement." - quoted from Philips website.

The protective ceramic coating of the curler's plates ensures even heat distribution and less hair damage for shiny and soft hair. Ceramic coatings are always the first choice of professionals because they are the healthiest and gentlest on hair. Ceramic irons are able to trap moisture by sealing your hair shaft against the curler's excessive heat.

The 4 main features includes:
  • Tulip shape - Uniquely designed for creating stylish, natural curls effortlessly.
  • One touch clip 'n curl - Automatically clip for curling with just one hand in a single movement.
  • Heat safe design - Protects against accidental burns.
  • Light and compact - Slim handle and small size to carry around.

1. Heat up the curler. A heated tool will create a longer-lasting and noticeably curls than an unheated one. For Philips Easy Natural Curler, it has a fixed temperature of 200°C to minimize further hair damage and instant heat up capacity in 30 seconds only!

2. Blow dry your hair and make sure it is completely dry without any damp sections. It is very important as curling on wet hair is very damaging and causes breakage. Then, comb and detangle your hair which will provide you hassle-free curling later on.

In the picture below, I'm using Philips ThermoProtect Ionic Hairdryer with massaging volume diffuser to volumize my hair, reduce frizz and stimulate the scalp for improving hair vitality.

3. Apply hair care products or heat protectant to prevent damage at high temperatures and add shine to your hair.

Tips: For hair care products, you can only apply water or cream-based products because hair oils might actually weigh down your hair and curls doesn't last long when your hair is too soft.

1. Separate your hair into sections and always start from the bottom to the crown of your head.

2. Take a small section of your hair and place it between the ceramic plates. Keep a distance as you would need to rotate the curler upwards later on.

3. Rotate the curler upwards (outwards) and your hair will automatically fall out on the other side. Hold it for approximately 8 to 10 seconds. In this tutorial, I'm curling my hair outwards but of course it is based on your own personal preferences whether inwards or outwards curls. I personally like to mix the curls to create voluminous and natural-looking hair.

Tips: Hold the curler vertically for looser curls, while horizontally for bouncier, tighter curls.

4. Press on the button, pull the curler down the strand of your hair about 2/3 away and repeat step 3 until your hair's end is placed inside the ceramic plates.

5. Repeat steps 2-4 for the other sections of your hair and you're done!

My tutorial is a bit different compared to the quick start guide provided. According to the quick start guide, they actually place the curler near to your roots, rotate the curler until your hair's end is placed inside the ceramic plates and release it. No doubt that would be much easier but I realized it couldn't hold the curls longer and your hair may easily slip off the plates.

Finish by gently finger-combing curls or you could apply hairspray to set your curls. Remember not to go overboard or it will eventually weigh down your hair and loosen your curls in no time.

I would say it's the perfect hair curler for beginners as it is very easy to use (two way usage as a straightener or curler). Two buttons (power on/off & lock/unlock buttons ) and you're good to go! There's no need to adjust the temperature setting as this curler has a fixed temperature of 200°C which is designed to minimize hair damage yet creating beautiful curls even on thick hair. Design wise, it is just totally meant for beginners or noobs like me to avoid accidental burns. I was really afraid of using curler and I've never use curler on my own before (except once when I went to 5-minutes hair makeover challenge organized by Hair Depot with their staff assistants' help as well). But now I have Philips Easy Natural Curler and I can easily achieve beautiful curls anytime without waking up early and ask my sister for help. :p

I also love the outcome creating very natural curls as some beginners may not used to tight curls just like how you wouldn't go for heavy smokey look when you just started to learn makeup. Besides, this compact sized curler is definitely a plus point for all girls out there. The light and slim handle is very convenient to carry around especially when travelling. I will definitely bring it along during my next vacation.

On the other hand, the professionals may find this curler is very troublesome. The plate size is only about 20 x 70 mm and the space in between is very limited that you can only curl 3cm width of hair strand each time. It is very time consuming especially for those who have thick hair, hence I wouldn't recommend you to use it if you're running out of time. It took me more than half an hour to curl my entire head (almost double up the time compared to other curlers) even thought I have really thin, fine hair.

Philips Easy Natural Curler creates very natural curls but it also means that the curls doesn't really last long (unless you perm it). I personally think that it's better to set your hair after by applying hairspray with lightweight texture but remember not too much. Apart from that, some people might actually prefer curler with variable settings to experiment with to find the right temperature especially for those who have thick and coarse long hair, they might need a curler with higher temperature for ideal curls.

After all, I would recommend this curler to beginners but not professionals and it is quite affordable in price wise. Philips Easy Natural Curler is priced at RM169 comes with 2 years worldwide guarantee and is available at various electrical stores and Philips online store (www.blipmy.com).

Kracie x The Butterfly Project

This year's Halloween was a bit more special, not the usual horror theme but a kawaii theme Kracie product launch with the Butterfly Project! How many of you have actually heard of the brand 'Kracie' or use it before? Kracie, which was formerly known as Kanebo, is one of the largest company in Japan with a wide range of products including toiletries & cosmetics, pharmaceuticals and even foods. And today we were introduced to their Ichikami hair care and Hadabisei skin care series.

The event was kick start with an introduction of the company and their products by Mr. Kojima, who specially came all the way from Japan and he's one funny guy!

We were first presented with their Ichikami hair care series which uses Japanese Botanical Essences to not only repair existing hair damage but prevent future damages as well. One of the main ingredients in Ichikami is rice bran where the Japanese in the past believed that the beauty of a lady is to have long and silky black hair and they realized using rice water can moisturize and protect their hair.

The Kracie team also did a little demonstration on hair styling featuring their Ichikami hair care series. They first apply hair treatment essence to protect the hair from heat damage, curl it, and lastly set the hair with styling gel and cologne to hold the curls longer. Her hair is now looking more healthy and smooth with perfect curls!

Next is about their Hadabisei face masks, which has a wide variety to choose from to suit different skin trouble needs (eg. brightening, dryness-induced wrinkle care, adult acne care).

This time Mr. Kojima decided to demonstrate on his own since we were all busy eating. We were also given two packs of sheet masks, All-in-1 Mask and Eye Zone Mask after the event and I'm totally loving it! The sheet mask is very soft and moisturizing, hence it can absorb into my skin quickly. (Y)

The complete range of Ichikami hair care and Hadabisei skin care series and they are now available at all AEON Wellness stores.

I'm so glad to meet up with the butterflies after so long and this cute mamasan with her green colour wig and kitty specs. :P Thanks to the Butterfly Project and Kracie for the invite, now I'm introduced to another awesome beauty brand and I'm definitely enjoy using their products especially the Hadabisei sheet masks. (Y) Get yours now at any AEON Wellness stores! :)

Invati™, solutions for thinning hair system by Aveda

I'm so glad to be invited to Aveda "Invati & Nature" event where I get to know more about the Aveda brand and its bestselling hair care franchise, Invati, as well as the meaningful story behind them. I guess many beauty bloggers are very familiar with Aveda for its plant-based products or even try out their products before.

Invati is a system of 97% naturally-derived products that reduce hair loss by 33% to help you keep the hair you have longer. The Aveda team looked to the wisdom of Ayurveda when creating densiplex, an invigorating blend of Ayurvedic herbs, including certified organic turmeric, which helps power Invati.

The Invati, solutions for thinning hair line-up includes:
  • Exfoliating Shampoo: removes build-up that can clog pores and renews the scalp with wintergreen-derived salicylic acid.
  • Thickening Conditioner: with soy protein and naturally derived amino acids mimics hair's building blocks to help weightlessly thicken hair from within.
  • Scalp Revitalizer: with ginseng and certified organic turmeric, helps you keep the hair you have longer.

Certified organic turmeric and ginseng are the star ingredients in Invati system. Being called "Kanchani", which means "Golden Goddess" in Sanskrit, turmeric has been used for thousands of years in Ayurveda, the ancient healing art of India, and has been revered throughout history as being more precious than gold.

These turmeric used in Invati system which helps transform hair and also does wonder to the community as well. Remember the meaningful story behind Invati which I've mentioned previously? Aveda joined forces with Nisarga, an eco-conscious Indian firm that grows Ayurvedic herbs using organic and biodynamic agriculture to help them source the organic turmeric. They then realized that Umbari villages near where they source the turmeric did not have access to clean water year-round where villagers had to spend up to 8 hours per day travelling to collect drinking water, therefore they partner up with Global Greengrants Fund (GGF), a non-profit organisation to improve the community's local water system. Through other grants made by GGF, the villagers have also set up Kitchen Gardens and operate a seed bank program to better nourish the community.

During the event, the Aveda team were so thoughtful that they have installed two stations for us to enjoy and relax our body.

The Aveda Blue Oil Balancing Concentrate, which was used by one of the masseur, was claimed to help dissolve tension and raise energy levels with the balancing aromas of refreshing peppermint and soothing blue camomile. It's one of the star products among bloggers which can calm our body and mind, and its special rollerball applicator make it perfect for self-massage and easy to carry around. I think I should get one when I start working later. :P

Here's a picture with the other bloggers holding the Rosemary which we planted earlier. It was such a fun yet meaningful day out with Aveda where I get to learn more about the brand. Now I'm so tempted to try out their full spectrum hair colour which up to 93% naturally derived yet able to deliver bright and sharp colours. Looking forward to have my first date with Aveda soon! :)

[Beauty Review] Restyle by A Cut Above, Sunway Pyramid

Good morning peeps! June is truly a blessed month because I've finished my exam & we have 3 weeks break after that (the longest break I've had!), traveled to Macau with boyfriend, had a hair makeover by professional stylist and many more blogging opportunities! So today I'm going to blog about my hairdo makeover at Restyle by A Cut Above, Sunway Pyramid two weeks ago.

Restyle is actually a sub-line of A Cut Above group and their services are more affordable, which mostly targeted on students or those who are from a moderate family. Restyle offers various packages while A Cut Above offers a la carte services only. Nonetheless, you can be assured of enjoying only quality services at Restyle as their stylists are trained and supervised by A Cut Above group.

Simple yet cosy environment here and they can accommodate up to 18 people.

This branch at Sunway Pyramid is using Loreal Paris products only, from shampoo, treatment and even hair dyes.

The hair wash area.

While waiting patiently for my hairstylist. Look at my black roots T_T

Magazines and tea are prepared for pastime.

It's my second time dying my hair so I thought of going for brighter colours before I start working next year. Hence I told my hairstylist I prefer pink brown or purple colour without bleaching but he said it's very hard to achieve fashion colours without bleaching so he mix and match some purple brown, magenta, pink and few more to achieve my desired outcome.

I gotta say they all are very professional, from the way they applied the hair dye, put a cap on my ears to avoid irritation and I don't feel itchy at all unlike the previous salon that I went to.

Tadah! I was so excited to see that popping red colour after hair wash yet worried the colour might not suit me. But guess what, I just fell in love with my hair afterwards :3

Say hello to my hairstylist, Edmund Hee. He's very kind to offer me to do treatment and style my hair with big wavy curls.

With my hairstylist, Edmund Hee. Thank you so much for this wonderful makeover! :D

What a huge transformation of before and after, isn't it? No more frizzy hair and split ends yay!

The outcome after sitting there for 5 hours, how do you think? :P I'm absolutely loving it and the copper red colour makes me look fairer teehee.

Overall I had a pleasant experience here and all the staffs are very friendly. Remember to look for Edmund Hee as he's a very friendly and easy-going person and he will try his best to achieve your desired outcome. He also gave me a lot of tips and advice me on how to take care of my hair. (Y) Not forgot to mention, I'm also surprised to see so many walk-in customers especially on a weekday so I would recommend you guys to book in advance to avoid disappointment. The package that I did will be RM405 including hair cut, colour and treatment (for my hair length). You can always check out their full price list here or visit their outlet for consultation.
