Dream Trip to Macau

Flipping through the photobook which I made for my trip to Macau in June this year, it reminds me of how much I miss Macau and wish to revisit the place again even though it's only 5 months past. Million thanks to Macau Government Tourist Office (MGTO) and Nuffnang Malaysia, now I have a chance to win a 3D2N all-expense paid trip to Macau (including return air ticket and 2 nights accommodation at a 4-star hotel)! *pinch my face* It's true!

Macau (澳门) is one of the two Special Administrative Region (SAR) of the People's Republic of China, the other being Hong Kong. Located across the Pearl River estuary from Hong Kong, with an estimated population of around 624,000 living in an area of 31.3 km2, it's the most densely populated region in the world. Macau was one of the earliest European colonies in Asia and the last to be relinquished (1999) and thus has a more visible colonial history than Hong Kong. Walking through the old city you could convince yourself you were in Europe - if the streets were devoid of poeple and signs in Chinese, that is. The Portuguese and Macanese populations continue to maintain a presence but as expected, most of the population is native Chinese.

Among the thousands reasons, here's the three most amazing things that makes me want to (re)visit Macau badly:
1. Food (especially Portuguese egg tart!)
I've never know Macau is a food heaven until I did research on it and there was a long food list appeared right after. I'm so regret that I didn't get to try most of them but now I'm determined to return to Macau with a food mission! :P Based on my visit to Macau previously, one thing that you must not miss out is their Portuguese egg tart! Slightly charred sweet custard with flaky pastry, definitely the best thing I've ever had in my life! I swear you will never purchase other Portuguese egg tarts after you've tried those in Macau.

2. UNESCO Heritage Sites
Again, I didn't know there are so many heritage sites in Macau, apart from Ruins of St. Paul's, it has now even been inscribed on the World Heritage List, making it the 31st designated World Heritage site in China. With 25 world heritage sites crammed into the compact Macanese peninsula, it's definitely an enthralling place to ramble around and explore. Every corner of the streets in Macau seems to have different meaning and history behind it. I only get to visit a few of them when I traveled to Macau previously as my boyfriend doesn't fancy these heritage sites, museums or even temples.

3. Skywalk Experience at Macau Tower
I guess I underestimate Macau that I've never notice there are so many things that I can do there and do you know Macau Tower actually hold the Highest Commercial Bungy Jump in the world in Guinness World Record with 233m/764ft high? I have fear of height hence bungy jump is totally crossed out from my to-do list but I would like to challenge Skywalk instead, among all the activities they offer. Standing on top of Macau Tower 233/764ft high, take a stroll around the outer perimeter that encircles the tower, it's considered as the most yolo adventure for me already. :P My boyfriend and I have planned to go for Skywalk during our visit to Macau in June but at last I'm too scared to go up there and we went to 360° revolving restaurant for buffet lunch instead. Therefore, I've swore to myself that I will definitely challenge Skywalk the next time I visit Macau!

Many of you must have think that why I'm willing to pay 788 HKD just for that 20 minutes walk around the tower but there's actually many things that you can do rather than just walking (eg. sliding). Take a look at the video below and you will realize how fun is it (kindly ignore the unrelated preview picture)!

4. Hotel Hopping
One bonus point why I want to visit Macau again - hotel hopping! I am serious. Has anyone mentioned that you must visit every hotels when you're here in Macau? Every hotels has different things to offer and the architecture itself is a visual delight as well. For eg. Venice-inspired interior designs and gondola ride at The Venetian Macau, Wynn Hotel's performance lake, Grand Lisboa Hotel in the shape of a lotus leaf, Dreamworks activities including Dreamworks All Star Parade and Meet & Greet at Sands Cotai Central, Golden Pathway which composed by 78 gold bars under the floor at Grand Emperor Hotel and etc. Most of the hotels do provide free shuttle bus from one to another hence it's not a problem to get around Macau especially for hotel hopping.

It's only 5 months past since I traveled to Macau and I can still remember every single thing includes the map of Macau (yes, I actually memorized it lol). As I've mentioned, previously was more of a relaxing trip while now I'm determined to return to Macau with a food mission to make the trip even more interesting and I wish to explore the city as much as I can. Below are the food list which I've compiled from various bloggers, travel books and also the locals that I wish to conquer all if I'm so lucky to be chosen as one of the winner:

Rather than stating why you should send me for this superb opportunity, I can't find any reasons why you shouldn't as I'm being such a hardworking one doing all kind of research of Macau and I have a rough itinerary in my mind already. I still have some MOP (currency of Macau) left from previous trip. :P Once again, thank you Nuffnang Malaysia and Macau Government Tourist Office (MGTO) for this awesome getaway!

Fly me to Krabi with DiGI & Malindo Air!

The beach essential; I'm all ready for Krabi woohoo! :P

I was so depressed about the fact that I'm having finals the next day after my birthday (which means no celebration for me T_T), but now I've just found a good news which lighten up my day! Nuffnang who collaborated with DiGi Telco, Malindo Air and Asia Web Direct will be giving out a 3D2N paid beach getaway (inclusive of flight + accommodation with free breakfast and hotel transfer) to Krabi! Yes, you heard me right :P

"Krabi Province, which lies along the coast of the Andaman Sea in Southern Thailand, is a top tourist destination as a result of its plentiful natural attractions including, white sandy beaches, crystal clear water, extensive coral reefs, numerous caves and waterfalls, and over 130 islands, including Koh Lanta and the jewels of the Andaman coast, the six islands of Mu Koh Phi Phi National Park. While not the top destination in and of itself, Krabi Town is a charming provincial capital located along the banks of a river that leads to the nearby Andaman Sea. Consequently, Krabi is an important port city for both local fisherman as well as boats ferrying visitors to the nearby attractions, including Koh Phi Phi, Koh Lanta, and Railey Beach, one of the premier rock climbing destinations in the world," quote from www.tourismthailand.org/Krabi.

Fascinated by the stunning scenery and white sand beaches offered by Krabi, the best present for my 20th birthday this year (9th Sept ya! :P) is none other but this 3D2N paid beach getaway to Krabi! Travelling has always been like a dream comes true for me as I came from a moderate family. Finally I went on my first overseas trip to Bangkok last December and that's when I started to fall in love with Thailand. Get to enjoy their local food, mix with the locals and exchange our cultures, holding a map and getting lost in other countries, it just feels great! This is also why I always want to explore Krabi. :)

Finals on the 10th, while this beach getaway on 11th to 13th, I'm badly in need of a pampering trip as a reward for studying so hard and release all my stress in these 3 months. Even though my exam is just around the corner, I did a quick research on Krabi; the hotel, food and attractions and all these have just become the reasons why I want must experience Krabi.

#ACCOMMODATION

Mercure Krabi Deevana (source)

The sponsored accommodation of this beach getaway, Mercure Krabi Deevana by Asia Web Direct. Mercure Krabi Deevana offers chic accommodation in contemporary low-rise buildings a short distance from Ao Nang Beach. With 213 stylist rooms and suites, each with a private balcony, guests can enjoy the resort's excellent facilities and benefit from gracious and personalized service from the welcoming Mercure team. The brand new resort features an exceptional restaurant and bars, three large outdoor swimming pools, a kid's pool, a restful and rejuvenating spa, and outstanding meetings and event facilities.

One of my favourite facilities offered by Mercure Krabi Deevana is gonna be this large lagoon-style swimming pool! Their swimming pools allow guests in the ground floor Deluxe Pool Access rooms to slip into the warm waters directly from their private terrace, one thing that I've been wanted to try all this while! Then followed by a luxurious experience of traditional Thai massage at Swan Spa to end my day. How I wish I have a pair of wings to fly me to Krabi right now. :P

#FOOD

Jenna's Fine Bistro & Wine (source)

Being ranked as the top restaurant in Ao Nang by TripAdvisor and received many positive review in terms of food, ambiance and services, I'm really keen to try them out! Jenna's Fine Bistro & Wine is known for its sophisticated European and Thai cuisine. They offer cold cut and cheese platters that go well with their exceptional selection of wines and now they've come out with an excellent idea of picnic basket too where you can take away their food and enjoy your picnic by the beach.

Ban Lay Thai Kitchen (source)

"Ban Lay Thai is in the line of Ao Nang's "Seafood Street", and its probably one of the best restaurants you can find here," copied from a review in TripAdvisor. It's primarily a seafood restaurant, which also has an extensive Thai menu. Recommended dishes are fish in lime sauce, tomyam and fried squids in garlic, and I heard they offer one of the best sunset view in Ao Nang. The night market is also one of the must go in Thailand because they gather all the yummy local food there.

#ATTRACTIONS

Railay beaches & caves (source)

When I was searching for attractions in Krabi, this Railay comes in the first place. It's a small peninsula located between the city of Krabi and Ao Nang in Thailand and only accessible only by boat due to the high limestone cliffs cutting off mainland access. These cliffts attract rock climbers from all over the world, but the area is also popular due to its beautiful beaches and quiet relaxing atmosphere. Sea kayaking, diving, rock climbing, snorkelling, jungle trekking, cooking or even water rafting, you can find it all here in Railay!

Wat Tham Sua (Tiger Cave Temple) (source)

The Tiger Cave Temple is one of the most sacred Buddhist sites in Krabi, well-known for the tiger paw prints in the cave, tall Buddha statues and the strenuous flight of stairs to reach the summit. I've seen this place previously on a TV programme occasionally and to be honest, I was so shocked yet admiring those challengers' courage and strength to hike 1,272 steps all the way up to the temple. The climb is strenuous and should not be taken lightly; the steps are uneven and steep jutting up the mountain, however you can enjoy the breath-taking view over Krabi if you made it up there successfully. Take it or not?

No doubt there are even more attractions and beautiful beaches in Krabi, but I just couldn't list them all here. After doing research about Krabi here and there, I've come up with one conclusion, which is I want to experience Krabi even more, no matter in terms of the culture, hotel, or even their white sandy beaches, I just love them all! I want to visit every single attractions there, island hopping, sun tanning at the beautiful beaches, enjoy the local foods, jump into that large lagoon-style swimming pool in Mercure Krabi Deevana every morning and an authentic Thai massage to end my day. :D

Once again, thank you Nuffnang, DiGi Telco, Malindo Air, Mercure Krabi Deevana and Asia Web Direct for this awesome beach getaway! It does motivate me to study even harder for finals while waiting for good news to be heard from Nuffnang. :P I had a rough itinerary in my mind already and hopefully my research is not wasted, cheerios!

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Mercure Krabi Deevana is now called Deevana Plaza Krabi-Aonang and you may visit their website at www.deevanaplazakrabi.com. As I've browsed through their website, there are nothing much changes of the management or facilities but the name itself. For those who're interested for room reservation, be quick because they've having early bird discount of 30% (inclusive breakfast) from now till 31st October 2015 for all room types! ;)

Maybank Go Ahead Challenge 2014

Thanks to Manoah and Maybank, I was invited to the grand launching of Maybank Go Ahead Challenge 2014 last week. Maybank Go Ahead Challenge is actually an exciting international business case competition offers the brightest young minds from Malaysian, ASEAN and across the globe the opportunity to exhibit their potential in a multi-discipline and multi-national initiative with world-class experience, especially designed and organized by a truly regional financial services provider, Maybank. It's their third season actually and there will be 14 participating countries this round including Malaysia, Singapore, Hong Kong, China, UK and US!

Honestly I was so excited to know such challenge exists because it sounds way too awesome! As a business student, I do really love to join this challenge but I'm in the midst of doing ICAEW courses and I guess I shall focus on my studies first. There's always next time :)

So the grand launching of Maybank Go Ahead Challenge 2014 starts with a presentation of video teaser which I find it's really interesting and remarkably that I get to catch a glimpse of their activities.

Maybank Go Ahead Challenge is deemed to be a blend of the amazing race, the apprentice, MasterChef and various other reality programs - it is Maybank's unique method of attracting young graduates' the unconventional way. It proven to be a successful experiential platform to demonstrate to potential talents, the calibre and qualities that Maybank actively looks for.

"There are of course many business case competitions out there. However, the Maybank Go Ahead Challenge is different and unique with at least four key differentiators from other competitions. First and foremost, it is the first student competition in the region that we know of, that tests participants in multiple disciplines, where others focus on one like marketing, or stock-broking, or finance. The Maybank Go Ahead Challenge combines multi-disciplines reflecting how we do business, bringing the whole Bank to the customer.

Secondly, the investment Maybank is making to have the finalists actually experience having to work as a team to deliver not only stretch targets but also in a short period of time, with total strangers, and from different nationalities at that - an actual situation they will find themselves in today's challenging work climate in successful organizations, and likewise in Maybank. This commitment by Maybank to put them in this situation is highly costly, but Maybank regards as important enough to put our money into.

Third, it is unique as the finalists also participate in a corporate responsibility initiative to enable them to experience firsthand our humanizing mission that Maybank embraces wholeheartedly. More importantly, the experience gives our participants an appreciation of the challenges that the disadvantaged face and offers them an opportunity to make a meaningful difference which we hope will inspire and spur them to continue with their noble efforts as they progress in life.

Fourth, it offers our finalists a fast pass to our marquee Graduate Entry level programme; our pride & joy, the Global Maybank Apprentice Programme (GMAP)." - by Puan Nora Abdul Manaf, Group Chief Human Capital Officer of Maybank.

I love how Maybank Go Ahead Challenge can train students being able adapt to different situations while maintaining their teamwork, which I think it's one of the most important point to survive in business-field companies. Besides, the most attractive part of this Maybank Go Ahead Challenge is the fact that corporate responsibility is weaved into the activities where participants will get to experience what the disadvantaged experience and when they are competing in the challenge, they are doing it for a cause, to help alleviate the sufferings of the underprivileged and not just about winning - certainly leaving a deeper impact on the participants' growth both as a person as well as a professional. Definitely a win-win situation (Y)!

For those who are interested to be part of the challenge to show #whatareyoumadeof, please visit www.goaheadchallenge.com and the application period will be open until 14th May 2014.

Dream big and go to Bali/Yangon with Travelar, DiGi & Nuffnang!

Instead of doing beauty reviews or fashion posts or events, today I'm going to blog about few highlights/tourist spots in Yangon and Bali. Hands up for travelling YAY!

Yangon, formerly known as Rangoon, was the capital of Myanmar until it was superseded by Naypyidaw in November 2005. Today, with a population of over 5 million people, it remains the largest city and main economic hub of Myanmar.

Yangon is an amalgamation of British, Burmese, Chinese and Indian influences, and is known for its colonial architecture, which although decaying and beyond appreciation, remains an almost unique example of a 19th century British colonial capital. New high-risk buildings were constructed from the 1990s as the government began to allow private investment (while former national government buildings such as the massive Secretariat Building, as the capital is shifted to Naypyidaw, have been left to rot). However, Yangon continues to be a city of the past, as seen by its longyi-wearing, betel nut chewing and spitting pedestrians, their friendly or even familial attitude towards strangers, its street vendors and its pungent smells.

• ACCOMMODATION

Chatrium Hotel Royal Lake is a 5-star city hotel (ranked 4 on Tripadvisor) located on the historic Royal Lake in the heart of Yangon, where you should give it a try to experience the remarkable blend of colonial style and Asian revival architecture. Chatrium Hotel has 301 rooms, suites and accommodations ranging from 40 to 300 square meter, including 37 divine suites, the ambiance of each room, featuring a wood-accented decor, traditional fabrics, cultural tapestries and locally crafted furniture of Myanmar, will enhance each stay for all guests!

Let's take a look of their Royal Lake Suite at 300 sq.m boasts an expansive balcony with 180 degree Yangon panoramic view, spacious bedrooms, lounge and dining areas, indulgent bathrooms and many more.

Not forgot to mention, they do provide 24 hours room service, complimentary hi-speed WiFi internet access, daily international buffet breakfast at The Emporia and so on.

• ATTRACTIONS

#1 The Shwedagon Pagoda

No visit to the Union of Myanmar is complete without a visit to the 2,500 years old Shwedagon Pagoda, which enshrines strands of Buddha's hair and other holy relics. Located west of the Royal Lake on 114 - acre Singuttara Hill in Yangon, Shwedagon Pagoda is the most sarced and impressive Buddhist site for the people of the Union of Myanmar. It is covered with hundreds of gold plates and the top of the stupa is encrusted with 4531 diamonds; the largest of which is a 72 carat diamond. It is clearly one of the wonders of the religious world.

Do take note of your dressings that you should dress reasonably and keep your legs covered. Longyi is available at the ticket booth if you arrive overly uncovered. Besides, as with nearly all Buddhist monuments, footwear is not permitted. Carry a plastic shopping bag, pop your shoes into that bag, and carry it around with you while on the walkways and platforms. That is the Burmese way! If you can visit during the early morning or in the evening so the white marble tiles do not burn your feet. :)

#2 Kyaikto (Golden Rock)

The Golden Rock is a truly extraordinary natural feature with its great weight balanced so precariously on the cliff edge. It is little wonder it is regarded with such sacred awe. According to legend, it is kept in place by "a single hair of the Buddha".

The great rock suddenly and spectacularly comes into view from the steep path up the hill, and can then be approached and touched (by men only) from the shrine complex that spreads out behind it on the cliff. By just looking at pictures, the views from Kyaikto are stunning and I would love to spend my day over there and watch sunset. Awww the sweetest thing in the world ♥

#3 Karaweik Palace and Kandawgi Lake

The beauty of Karaweik Palace shows a unique work of art to be explored in the heart of Kandawgyi Lake. Kandawgyi Lake is a popular recreation centre of the capital of Yangon. You can find a variety of beautiful flowers, the natural scene of the lake water and large shady trees. There are also an orchid garden, mini zoo, playground, souvenir shops and lots of restaurants. A great place for you to escape from the busy city and have a stroll in the evening or after your dinner.

#4 Bogyoke Aung San Market

After visiting the temples and museums in Yangon, it's time to do some shopping! Bogyoke Aung San Market, inaugurated in 1926, is the most popular market of Yangon and Myanmar as well. A wide range of Myanmar souvenirs are available at this market attracting every foreign visitor guests also visit the market to buy trendy clothes, accessories, gold, gems and jewellery.

Myanmar is the golden land where gold, silver and various kinds of gems and jewellery are abundant.

• FOODS

#1 Shwe Sa Bwe

Shwe Sa Bwe, where people claim it's the best French food in Asia! Shwe Sa Bwe is the brainchild of Francois Stoupan, and trains apprentices from all over Myanmar into being top chefs and skilled staff in the food and beverage industry. They offers fine dining in a beautiful building and garden area. The regularly changing set menu has three courses for a little over 20,000 kyats (around MYR 65) which is quite affordable.

Pictures took from their Facebook page. OMG so tempting!

#2 Hla Myanmar Restaurant (Shwe Ba)

A simple restaurant, but a good one for those on a budget. They are specialized in Bamar (Burmese) curry dishes, so this is a good opportunity to have what the locals eat. It is well-known among locals, because the famous actor Shwe Ba used to have his house in this area and the restaurant is named after him. The Hla Myanmar restaurant lies not very far from the Shwedagon Pagoda and is thus ideal for a lunch during or after the temple attendance.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Bali, the famed Island of the Gods, with its varied landscape of hills and mountains, rugged coastlines and sandy beaches, lush rice terraces and barren volcanic hillsides all providing a picturesque backdrop to its colourful, deeply spiritual and unique culture, stakes a serious claim to be paradise on earth. With world-class surfing and diving, a large number of cultural, historical and archaeological attractions, and an enormous range of accommodations, this is one of the world's most popular island destinations and one which consistently wins travel awards. Bali has something to offer a very broad market of visitors from young back-packers right through to the super-rich.

• ACCOMMODATION

Grand Mega Resort and Spa is boutique hotel concept, very accessible from most popular tourist spots in Bali due to its strategic location. It is cross walking distance to famous Mall Bali Galleria, less than 15 minutes away from the ever popular Kuta Beach, Ngurah Rai International Airport and Denpasar City Centre. It features 135 deluxe room and spacious suites with unique combination traditional and modern architecture, a beautiful outdoor swimming pool, a chic and cozy restaurant, pool bar, spa, fitness centre, business centre and a well equipped meeting room ideally suited for both business and leisure travelers.

Look at their outdoor swimming pool, the view is so breath-taking! I just can't wait to jump and dip inside the pool ngawww. Sitting down by the poolside, dip your leg inside, watch the sunset, have a drink and chit-chat with your friends, it would be the best moment in my life ♥

• ATTRACTIONS

#1 Mount Batur and Kintamani Volcano

Mount Batur, also known as Kintamani volcano, has been the most favourite tourist destination in the central mountains area of Bali. With the magnificent view of its caldera, and also the beauty of Lake Batur which fills the large part of the caldera, the crater of Mount Batur is the central interest of the place which is estimated to have 13 square km. Surrounded by the captivating nature of Mount Batur, you will find plenty more reasons to linger in the crater itself, and be sure to also take in the joyous winding road along the lake shore to Toya Bungkah, Pura Ulan Danu Batur, or even the hot springs. Imagine having breakfast and watching sunrise at Mount Batur ngawww... *melts*

#2 Ulun Danu Beratan Temple

Ulun Danu Beratan, literally "the source temple of Lake Beratan" is easily the island's most iconic sanctuary sharing the scenic qualities with the seaside temples of Uluwatu and Tanah Lot. The smooth reflective surface of the lake surrounding most of the temple's base creates a unique floating impression, while the mountain range of the Bedugul region encircling the lake provides the temple with a scenic backdrop. The temple was built in the 17th century in worship of the main Hindu trinity, Brahma-Vishnu-Shiva, as well as the lake goddess, Dewi Danu. The sight and cool atmosphere of the Bali uplands have made the lake and this temple a favourite sightseeing and recreational spot as well as a frequently photographed site.

#3 Balangan Beach

Bali is not short of beaches and so everyone must be wondering which Bali beach should we head for? I've been searching around and I came across this - Balangan Beach, has always be on the top 5 best hidden beach in Bali. A white sandy beach stretch 200 meters with panoramic view to the Indian Ocean and blessed by the spectacular sunset that create the romantic nuance for every visitor who visiting this beach. This beach is also endowed by enormous wave that is demanded by all surfers and selected as one of the best surfing points in the island of god.

#4 Banjar Hot Springs

The Banjar Hot Springs provide a recreational and therapeutic experience, due to the water's sulphuric content. At the time, the waters of the hot springs were known to have cured various skin problems as well as rheumatic ailments. Banjar Hot Springs continue to provide an enjoyable and health-benefitting retreat up in the hills of the north, for those seeking relaxation, fun, sightseeing, and a totally different experience.

#1 Ku De Ta

Ku De Ta is a Bali institution and a must-stop spot for sunset drinks at least once during your visit to Bali. The uniquely gracious and hospitable spirit of the Balinese and the stunning world-class Seminyak beachfront location of Ku De Ta are at the very foundation of what makes the venue so magical, but it's the reputation Ku De Ta has fostered for inimitable fine dining any time of the day or night, discreet attentive service, cutting edge design and architecture that maintains the vibe and popularity of one of Bali's most revered lifestyle icons.

According to the Internet, the cocktails are taken seriously here, with classics given a hipster twist - think Earl Grey martini or raspberry and cucumber and elderflower Colllins - but don't overlook the award-winning kitchen, either. The slow-roasted lamb shoulder, served with potato and rosemary galette, garlic greens and tomato relish is recommended. (Y) *slurrrrrps*

#2 The Warung

If you're looking for authentic Balinese food in an upscale setting, there's nowhere else like The Warung at Alila Villas Uluwatu, which delivers simple classics such as ayam betutu (whole roast baby chicken in banana leaf) atop a cliff with soaring views across the Indian Ocean. Indoor and outdoor dining is provided in this welcoming yet sophisticated space. The friendly and convivial atmosphere enables diners to have a casual, laid back experience, whether they choose to interact with other guests at the communal tables or opt for the more private tables for two dotted around the restaurant.

To show my desire of winning, I've even make an itinerary for 3d2n in Yangon, Myanmar (as the grand prize yay)! You may use it as a guide if you're planning to go Yangon soon :)

I do really want to win these prizes for my sister as her wedding present! She has been taking good care of me for these 19 years and buy me everything that I want. Now, I wish to do something for her in return and I guess it would be the best present as her pre-honeymoon? :) xx
