The Tole Acupuncture - Herbal Medical Centre

So last Friday my boyfriend and I went for our very first acupuncture treatment at The Tole Acupuncture - Herbal Medical Centre. He has very serious backache issue since one year ago due to work out and it just keep coming back after months, so we decided to seek for Chinese medical treatment - Acupuncture.

What is Acupuncture?

Acupuncture is an ancient practice of medicine. It originated over 2,500 years ago from China. Literally acupuncture is a collection of procedures involving penetration of the skin with needles to stimulate certain points on the body - the needles are inserted to various depths. According to traditional Chinese medicine, stimulating specific acupuncture points corrects imbalances in the flow of qi "气" through channels known as meridians. It does have some therapeutic benefits, including pain relief and alleviation from nausea caused by chemotherapy. Besides, there are various forms of acupuncture. Apart from insertion of needles, other types include electric acupuncture where electric probes are used, laser acupuncture or photoacupuncture where laser beams are used, microsystem acupuncture such as ear face, hand and scalp acupuncture.

Their signature acupuncture treatments are:

  • The Tole Neuro Acupuncture and Herbal Medicine Treatment
  • Fourth-Generation Chinese Medicine Treatment Ancestral Formula

Price:

RM 35 per session and RM 2 per needle. Herbal medicine for RM15-RM35 per pack.

The Tole Acupunture - Herbal Medical Centre is located at the 2nd floor of Menara KH, same building as the new campus of INTI International College in the heart of Kuala Lumpur. Their medical centre is quite spacious as the whole particular floor of level 2 has been occupied by The Tole and they do provide a big space for children especially for those who are hyperactive.

Upon arrival, we're required to fill up a registration form so that they can keep track of our past records and health issues. Then we were brought into a consultation room and meet Datuk Master Leong. He would first ask about our health concern, check on our pulse, find solutions and give us the prescriptions before we go on to acupuncture treatment.

Datuk Master Leong, the founder of The Tole Institute of Neuro Acupunture Treatment and Herbal Medicine that now has 145 years of practice and research inherited in way of medication. He is also a master neuro acupuncturist and Chinese physician. Master comes from a long line of family Chinese medical practitioners. For four generations, and more than 140 years of practicing in Kuala Lumpur China Town, his family passed on to Master all the family's discipline of studies. Groomed by his father and uncle from an early age, he is considered by many to be gifted in this field. We did some research about him before hand so we are not worry if anything's happen due to his expertise in acupunture. He was featured on various newspapers or magazines before, check out one of the example here :p

After the consultation, we were brought into another room for acupuncture treatment. First he would check on the acupuncture point, take out the needle then "poke"! With his professional skills, there are 8 needles on his back already in the blink of an eye and surprisingly, boyfriend said that he couldn't feel anything at all, not even the ant bites sensations.

*screamssssss*

After that, electronic devices are connected to excite and enhance the effectiveness of the treatment. They turn on the devices slowly to ensure that you don't get a shock due to the sudden increase in electric current. From there you will feel like heart beating at your acupuncture point and the treatment lasts for half an hour.

PS// After the acupuncture treatment, there will be some redness on your acupuncture point but no worries, it will be gone in one or two days. Besides, do take note that you are advised not to shower as you cannot touch water or let the strong wind blowing directly on your acupuncture point for about one hour after the treatment.

While waiting for boyfriend's acupuncture treatment, I took the opportunity to walk around and snap pictures. I was so surprised to see many children and foreigners here for acupuncture, walking around with few needles on their head. I always thought that only Chinese oldies will go for acupuncture, but I was wrong; acupuncture are broadly applied in the West nowadays too. While chit-chatting with the patients there, I've come across a little girl, who suffered from Cerebral Edema, she was recommended by one of the western doctor, pediatric neurologist to come here for acupuncture. Seriously I've no idea that The Tole is so famous that even one of the hospital group's chairman visits them frequently.

Besides, there are many parents would bring their children here for acupuncture before examinations to increase their memory and score better marks. Master was aware that I'll be having exams the following week and he suggested me to do acupuncture and see if it works. And there goes....

Initially, I was very nervous and scare as I'm the type of girl who will cry when receiving injections back in high school. A lot of stupid thoughts running in my mind like "what if I die after acupuncture?", "will blood comes out?" but I survived at last with 4 needles on my head! YAY another achievement unlocked (Y)

Before leaving, we were given some herbal medicine specially designed by Master to recuperate our body.

Million thanks to The Tole Acupuncture team for this wonderful experience! (Y)

My Dad got acupuncture once (not the electric kind) and said he got a bad headache but some of my friends have had it for back ache and it worked really well :0)
